Ingredients

Asafoetida / Hing A pinch
Chana dal ¼ cup
Coconut ½ of a
Cumin seeds / jeera ½ teaspoon
Curd 1 tablespoon
Curry leaves / kari patta 7-8 leaves
Dry red chilli ½ piece
Ginger ¼ small
Green chillies 1½ pieces
Mustard seeds ½ teaspoon
Oil ½ teaspoon
Salt ½ teaspoon or as per taste
Turmeric Powder / Haldi A pinch
Urad dal ½ teaspoon

Recipe

Preparation

  1. 1. Chop the coconut and coriander leaves. Keep them aside.

  2. 2. Roughly chop the green chillies and ginger. Keep them aside.

Cooking

  1. 1. In a mixer grinder, add the coconut, 80% of the curry leaves, cumin seeds, ginger, green chillies, salt, chana dal, coriander leaves and some water.

  2. 2. Grind the contents till you get a smooth paste.

  3. 3. Add curd to the mixture and mix the contents well.

  4. 4. Transfer the chutney in a deep bowl or vessel.

  5. 5. Heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, urad dal and asafoetida to it.

  6. 6. Once the seeds start to crackle, add the remaining curry leaves, turmeric powder and dry red chilli to the mixture. Cook the contents for 2 minutes.

  7. 7. Now, add this prepared tadka mixture directly into the coconut chutney and mix the contents well.

  8. 8. Your dish is prepared and ready to be served. Serve it with vada pav, dosa or idli.
