Ingredients

Asafoetida / Hing A pinch
Bay leaf / Tej patta 1 piece
Black Chana ½ cup
Cardamom 2 pieces
Cinnamon stick 1 small
Cloves 2 pieces
Coriander leaves ½ stick
Coriander powder ½ teaspoon
Cumin seeds / jeera ½ teaspoon
Fenugreek leaves / kasuri methi ½ teaspoon
Garam masala powder ¼ teaspoon
Ginger + garlic paste ½ teaspoon
Green chillies ½ piece
Mango Powder / Amchur Powder ½ teaspoon
Oil 3 teaspoon
Onions 1 medium
Red Chilli (Powdered) ½ teaspoon
Salt ¼-½ teaspoon as per taste
Tumeric powder / haldi ¼ teaspoon

Preparation

  1. 1. Chop the onions, coriander leaves and tomatoes. Keep them aside.

  2. 2. Soak the black chana in water (till the black chana is completely submerged) for 5-6 hours.

  3. 3. Slit the green chillies length wise and keep them aside.

Cooking

  1. 1. Heat the oil in a kadai and add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves, bay leaf, fenugreek leaves and asafoetida to it. Mix the contents well.

  2. 2. Add the chopped onions to the mixture. Cook the contents till the onions turn golden brown in colour on all sides.

  3. 3. Now, add green chillies and ginger + garlic paste to the mixture. Mix the contents well.

  4. 4. Add the tomatoes to the mixture and mix the contents well. Cook the contents for 4-5 minutes.

  5. 5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, mango powder and salt to the mixture.

  6. 6. Cook the contents on low flame till the oil is released and you get a thick gravy.

  7. 7. To this mixture, add the black chana and cook the contents for about 2 minutes.

  8. 8. Transfer this mixture into a pressure cooker and add some water (as needed) to the mixture. Boil the contents for 7-8 whistles.

  9. 9. Add garam masala powder and coriander leaves to the mixture. Mix the contents well.

  10. 10. Your dish is prepared and ready to be served.
